The Master of Arts in Teacher Leadership degree puts you in control of your education. Offered entirely online, it consists of three stackable certificates – each worth 10 credit hours – for a total of 30 credit hours.

Each certificate blends asynchronous online courses with a real-time capstone course held in the summer. Built with input from educators to help meet teachers' needs, certificate content and the curriculum directly relates to teachers' everyday practices and provide practical tools that teachers can use in their own classrooms, schools and communities.

Graduate Degree Overview and Structure

The Master's in Teacher Leadership follows a term-based schedule, which means online courses start and end on specific days within a 16-week term in the fall and spring and a 10-week term in the summer. Capstone courses are completed online in real-time during a special 3-week term in summer.

The degree is designed to provide you with the flexibility in how and when you complete the coursework. Stack three certificates over time to earn the graduate degree.

You must complete the three core courses before enrolling in the final corresponding capstone course (offered in summer) for each certificate. We strongly encourage students to take the core courses in sequence.

Course Overview

Every asynchronous course in the program has five modules with two major assignments per course. Every module has about two weeks' worth of work (for term-based graduate students) that uses a range of learning resources including readings, videos, podcasts and participant structures like discussion posts, etc. Course facilitators provide you with feedback throughout the course. This design allows you to review course content and complete weekly assignments on your own time throughout the week.

If you are not ready or don't want or need a full master's degree, you have the option to enroll in individual certificates. Students in our program may enroll in a single certificate to test out the program first or to gain specialized knowledge and skills in a particular area. Visit our Certificates page for more information.
