Find the resources you need to get started.

As you explore online program opportunities at CU Boulder, please visit the wealth of resources offered through CU Boulder’s Veteran & Military Affairs office. Please be aware that some benefits will also be different for students in fully online programs.

For further information for military connected students, please email veterans@colorado.edu.

Setting Up VA Education Benefits

You are encouraged to start setting up your educational benefits early. Information on setting up your VA Education Benefits at CU Boulder can be found on the VMA New Student Checklist.

Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA)

If you will be using the Post-9/11 GI Bill®, you may be eligible for the monthly VA housing allowance. In order to receive that payment, you will need to be enrolled in courses above half-time (this enrollment status can vary between programs and may be affected by the dates of your program). If you attend only online classes at CU Boulder, you will receive a MHA payment equal to half the national average. Please speak with the Veteran & Military Affairs office for details.

Residency

If you will be using VA education benefits and relocating to Colorado by the first day of the term, you may be eligible for in-state residency. Veterans and Dependents can contact Veteran & Military Affairs (veterans@colorado.edu) for more information.

Non-Residents

CU Boulder participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program which addresses the gap between in and out-of-state tuition. CU Boulder offers an unlimited number of $5,000 awards per Fall and Spring semester, up to $10,000 per year when combined with the VA’s contribution. If you will not be relocating to Colorado for your program, you will not be eligible for in-state tuition. However, you may be eligible for the Yellow Ribbon Program if you’ll be using Post-9/11 GI Bill® benefits at the 100% level.

Self-Paced Courses (Teacher Leadership)

Self-paced (flex) courses cannot be certified to the VA until they have been completed and a grade has been assigned. You will be responsible for paying the cost of the tuition up front and the VA will pay after the course is completed. Any housing payment you are eligible for based on the self-paced (flex) course will be back paid after the course has been completed and certified to the VA.
