Leading with Confidence: Kiana Junior's Journey Through the MA in Corporate Communication Program
Kiana Junior, an Internal Communications Specialist at Coldwell Banker, discusses how the MA in Corporate Communication program at CU Boulder has helped her to communicate more effectively and approach challenges with confidence.
What is your current professional role or position?
I’m an Internal Communications Specialist for the Coldwell Banker brand.

How did you learn about the Corporate Communication program?
I’m from Louisville, CO so I looked for degree programs that were close to me from a reputable college.
Why did you decide to join the MA in Corporate Communication program? What were your goals?
I decided to join the program because it perfectly filled the gaps in my communication education. I had a few years of experience in my role, but wanted to know more about the industry, standard practices and how other professionals handled scenarios that were difficult to practice in day-to-day life–e.g. crisis communication, public statements, managing public sentiment, etc. I opted for the fully online program for the flexibility to continue working my full-time job.
What has been your experience?
My experience with the program has been wonderful! I feel like the program is well-rounded, with plenty of professionals from around the industry and with varying pathways to becoming communicators. The structure of the program is like having a group of mentors specializing in each facet of the profession.
What progress have you made toward achieving your goal(s)?
Working through this program has allowed me to discover new project opportunities and lead projects with more confidence. Knowing the “why” behind communication strategies has allowed me to make bigger communications decisions in my position and present them to my executives more effectively.
What advice would you give to a peer who finds themselves in a similar situation?
Just go for it! I think most people will find the information so valuable they’ll be hooked after one class.
What have you learned from this experience that you will take with you?
I’ve definitely learned that I’m capable of a lot more than I thought I was. The instructors have pushed me to think bigger and work through communications challenges in a safe space with plenty of room for constructive feedback.
